Are you feeling stuck in your personal, academic, or professional life? Are you struggling with following a healthy routine? Do you have big dreams and goals but can’t seem to get started on them? If so, you might be experiencing a common phenomenon known as “failure to launch.”

Failure to launch refers to a situation where an individual has difficulty transitioning from one stage of life to another. It is most often seen as young adults transition from teens to adulthood. Failure to launch can manifest as difficulty finding a job, struggling with academic work, difficulty making decisions and sticking to a routine, or even moving out of a parent’s home.

If you’re experiencing failure to launch, it can be frustrating and demotivating. However, with the right approach and mindset, it is possible to overcome this challenge. Here’s a failure to launch checklist to help you get started:

  1. Identify Your Goals and Priorities
    • One of the main reasons people fail to launch is that they don’t have a clear understanding of what they want to achieve. Take some time to think about what you want to accomplish in your personal and professional life. Write down your goals and priorities, and make sure they align with your values and interests.
  2. Break Your Goals Down into Manageable Steps
    • Once you’ve identified your goals, break them down into smaller, manageable steps. This will make your goals feel less overwhelming and help you stay focused on the tasks at hand. Set deadlines for each step to keep yourself accountable.
  3. Create a Schedule
    • To stay on track, create a schedule for yourself. This can be a weekly or daily schedule that outlines your tasks and priorities. Stick to your schedule as much as possible, but be flexible enough to adjust it when necessary.
  4. Eliminate Distractions
    • Distractions can be a major obstacle when it comes to launching. Identify the things that distract you the most and take steps to eliminate them. For example, if social media is a distraction, you could limit your usage or use a website blocker to keep yourself focused.
  5. Develop Healthy Habits
    • Healthy habits can help you stay focused, motivated, and energized. Incorporate healthy habits into your daily routine, such as exercise, meditation, and healthy eating. These habits will improve your overall well-being and make it easier to stay on track with your goals.
  6. Get Support
    • Finally, don’t be afraid to reach out for support. Talk to friends and family members who can offer encouragement and motivation. Consider working with a coach or therapist at home who can help you identify and overcome any obstacles that are preventing you from launching.
    • In other cases, taking some time off to attend a Failure to Launch program can be of great benefit. The Skyterra Young Adult program offers men and women, ages 18-29 a supportive, therapeutic environment where individual attention and personal needs are addressed. Our program, among others, teaches young adults how to plan for and live out the vision for their future, and helps to put them on a path of lifelong direction.

We know that failure to launch can be a challenging and frustrating experience, but it’s not insurmountable. By following this checklist, you can take steps to overcome this challenge and achieve your goals. Remember to stay focused, stay motivated, and don’t give up!
